Description:

30-SECOND PRIMER ON THE 2019 KAWASAKI KX450F

2019 kawasaki kx450fAll-new features for the 2019 KX450F include a more powerful engine,  slimmer aluminum frame, Showa coil spring front forks, a hydraulic clutch and electric start system. Claimed weight is 232.4—up 1.4 pounds from 2018. The 2019 KX450F engine has increased peak power with a flatter torque curve which makes it easier to ride.

2019 kawasaki kx450f finger followersBig news on the 2019 KX450F engine are the new fingers followers, plain bearings on the connecting rod big end, 8.5mm cylinder offset, 4mm larger intake valves with 0.8mm more lift, 2mm larger exhaust valves with 0.5mm more lift and a 1mm larger throttle body.

The Showa 49mm coil-spring have 39mm compression damping pistons, 25mm cartridge cylinders and the inner surface of the outer fork tubes have a Dimplush texture, which is a wave-like finish that retains an oil film of the fork leg for less stiction. The outer surface of the inner forks tube has a titanium oxide coating to helps prevent wear. Plus, the front axle has been increased from 20 to 22mm.

2019 kawasaki kx450f electric startThe electric starter is powered by a lightweight, compact Skyrich lithium ion (more accurately Lithium Iron Phospshate) battery that helps keep weight to a minimum. An automatic centrifugal compression release system lifts one exhaust valve to help the battery get it lit up.

2019 kawasaki kx450f frameThe design emphasis of the 2019 frame is to provide maximum traction under acceleration. Specific chassis dimensions and design features, like reinforcing ribs, swingarm pivot output shaft, linkage mounts and rear axle placement, are configured to prevent chassis squat.

2019 kawasaki kx450f engineThe 2019 exhaust head pipe is 105mm longer and the resonator chamber is tucked in behind the pipe guard. The clutch is hydraulic.

2019 kawasaki kx450f engineYou don’t have to take the seat off to get to the KX450F air filter. It is now accessed through the left side number plate panel—with two bolts.2019 kawasaki kx450fThe KX450F’s launch control system is activated by pressing and holding the launch control button, located at the left handlebar, for two seconds or more while in neutral, first or second gear. When activated, the indicator lamp next to the button flashes.

SATURDAY’S MT. MORRIS 250/450 ANIMATED TRACK MAP

IF THIS WAS 37 YEARS AGO, THIS WOULD BE THE BIG RACE OF THE WEEK

The Carlsbad USGP was always held on this week in June, but it didn’t show on ABC-TV’s “Wide World of Sports” until December. Obviously with live TV coverage of Supercross and Nationals today that one-day showing seems terrible, but the “Wide World of Sports” showing of the USGP drew 30 million viewers. It was the highest rated Wide World of Sports show every year. And yes that is more viewers than all the 2018 race viewers combined. The late Marty Moates made history at the 1980 USGP on June 22. Yamaha ran this ad for him.

LOS ANGELES POLICE CHIEF CHARLIE BECK TO RETIRE: DEBBI TAMIETTI SHOOTS A COOL GIFT

Debbi’s action photo of LAPD Chief Charlie Beck.

The Los Angeles Daily News story of Chief Beck being present Debbi’s photo—Which he blew up and signed for Debbi.

LAPD Police Chief Charlie Beck is retiring after 40 years of service and you may know that Charlie Beck is a serious motocross racer. The Los Angeles Police Academy Cadets wanted to present Charlie with something special for his retirement, so they asked Debbi Tamietti to shoot a photo of him riding—without letting him know what it was for. When they presented Debbi’s photo to Chief Beck, they had it blown up and framed it. Chief Beck was totally surprised because he thought that Debbi was just shooting photos of the gang riding for fun. A couple days later Chief Beck had someone hand deliver a poster-sized mounted copy of the Los Angeles Daily News of the Police Academy Cadets presenting Chief Beck the photo. He signed it “Debbi – thanks for making me look fast! C.B.”

RYAN VILLOPOTO’S NEW RACE SHOP

Now that Ryan Villopoto has a promotions job at Yamaha, he needed a place to keep his bikes. Here is Ryan’s YZ125, with the forks off for Bones to work on them, and his YZ450F.
